“The vines from the stony soils in the Rapaura sub-region are typically lower cropping and that, combined with a cool start to the season set us up with a naturally balanced crop level” says Jamie Marfell, Stoneleigh winemaker.
“The ripening season was warm and dry, and that meant fruit ripened to its full potential and developed incredible, complex flavours and exceptional quality.”
All of the varietals for 2015 are expressing their signature flavours and aromas. “The Stoneleigh winemaking philosophy is one of minimal intervention. This year, that philosophy has delivered truly outstanding wines that capture the vibrancy and freshness of the region” says Jamie.
Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc 2015 is an outstanding example of a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from the Rapaura sub-region. Vibrant and lively, this wine displays lifted tropical fruit aromatics, with passionfruit, grapefruit and citrus blossom characters. The palate presents ripe tropical fruit, melon and stone fruit flavours with a complex minerality balanced by a tight fresh acidity.
On the nose, Stoneleigh Pinot Gris 2015 displays ripe Nashi pear and stone fruit notes with subtle spicy notes. The palate has intense stone fruit flavours and a warm rich textural weight on the finish.
Stoneleigh Pinot Noir Rosé 2015 displays an abundance of strawberry, ripe red cherry and raspberry aromas, that lead to an intense and elegant palate of strawberry, dark red cherry and cranberry flavours, complemented by a refreshing, textural, dry finish.
Stoneleigh Pinot Noir 2015, although still being finished, is also showing excellent flavour characteristics and intensity.
